The Vietnamese Community Health Project, better known as Suc Khoe La Vang! (Health is Gold!), began in 1986 at the University of California, San Francisco campus by Stephen J. McPhee, MD, and Chirstopher N.H. Jenkins, MA, MPH. Since its inception, it has expanded to include many academic and community leaders and has published over 80 research articles. VCHPP is the recipient of over 50 grants, totaling close to$36 million dollars in grants. VCHPP aims to reduce health disparities by using community-based intervention research projects. In the past, they have targeted tobacco prevention, Hepatitis B immunization, and cervical, breast, and colorectal screening. VCHPP has community partners across the state of California, Washington, D.C., Texas, and Vietnam.
